Apr 13 - Kick-Ass Screenwriter Says Sequel May Not Happen
Apr 13, 2011 • Category: Kick-Ass0 Comments

More bad news for fans of director Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, the live-action adaptation of the comic book created by Mark Millar. Despite Millar’s assertion back in September that Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall would go into production “in nine months”—which would put the start date in June of this year, after Vaughn’s work on X-Men: First Class is completed—title star Aaron Johnson said only a few weeks later that he had heard that “they’re not going to make one any time soon.” Then, both Chloe Moretz and Lyndsy Fonseca publicly expressed their doubts about Millar’s timeline.

It seemed like Millar might turn out to be right after all when it was reported in January that Kick-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman was “working on the script” for the sequel, but Goldman quickly shot down the rumor, calling it “erroneous.” Now, Goldman has revealed to Absolute Radio (via DigitalSpy) that the sequel may not happen at all.

I don’t think it’s going to happen. At the moment, it’s not in the works. We’re all doing different things at the moment. We would love to do it again, but we’ve all been pulled in different directions.

I really hope this doesn’t turn into a Sin City 2 fiasco where it’ll take them years just to start up on a sequel…

Jan 24 - Kick-Ass 2 Still Not Being Written
Jan 24, 2011 • Category: Kick-Ass0 Comments

When Kick-Ass landed in theaters last year it was in no way the hit that anybody had expected. Making only $19 million in its opening weekend and precipitously falling in the weeks following, fans might want to see a sequel, but it doesn’t seem likely. Last we heard, star Aaron Johnson, who played the titular hero, said that the idea for the sequel was entirely in the hands of director Matthew Vaughn. Then, just a few days later, Chloe Moretz chimed in to say that everything we’ve heard about a Kick-Ass 2 has been all rumor. Today’s news doesn’t make the situation any brighter.

Jane Goldman, who has written the scripts for Vaughn’s Stardust, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, recently took to Twitter to clear up some rumors that she has been hearing about the sequel. First, she cleared up that she is not currently writing another Kick-Ass film. Instead, she is working on two other projects at the moment and then will be moving on to Vaughn’s next film – which also won’t be Kick-Ass 2 – after he finishes post-production on X-Men.

Aug 31 - ‘Kick-Ass 2′ Officially Gets The Green Light
Aug 31, 2010 • Category: Kick-Ass0 Comments

It was inevitable that Matthew Vaughn’s big-screen version of the John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar comic “Kick-Ass” would get the green light for a sequel. Today it’s been confirmed apparently by Millar himself on a radio station in the UK who claimed that due to the wonderful DVD sales the sequel is a go.

It’s not really a surprise when you think about it. Sure, it didn’t perform incredibly well like people thought it would in the box office, but it seemed destined to be one of those comic book flicks that would find it’s audience on home video. Since this is all up and running, now it’s a matter of the studio bringing back Vaughn and the cast to the new project.

At the moment Matthew Vaughn is in the middle of filming “X-Men: First Class” for 20th Century Fox which acts as a ’60s set prequel, out in theaters on June 3rd, 2011. “Kick-Ass” star Aaron Johnson will be appearing next in Sam Taylor-Wood directed film “Nowhere Boy”. Chloe Moretz is in the middle of filming her role in Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo Cabret” and will be seen in Matt Reeves’ “Let Me In” this October 8th.
