May 09 - Universal In Talks To Continue ‘Kick-Ass’ Franchise
May 9, 2012 • Category: Kick-Ass0 Comments

Universal Pictures is in talks to make Kick-Ass 2, with Jeff Wadlow directing his script. I’m told the intention is to get the film in production by August. Discussions are just getting underway with such original castmembers as Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and they will have to be signed to new deals to reprise their roles. The raucous 2010 film was directed by Matthew Vaughn; it was made for $28 million and grossed $48.1 million domestic and $103 million worldwide. The original was released by Lionsgate but became a free ball controlled by Vaughn. He can’t direct the sequel because of his commitments to his X-Men: First Class follow-up, but he is backing it and is fully supportive of handing over the reins. Wadlow, who wrote and directed 2005′s Cry Wolf, wrote the Kick-Ass 2 script for Vaughn, and it has already come before Universal’s green-light committee.

May 09 - ‘Kick-Ass 2′ to release next May, says John Romita Jr
May 9, 2012 • Category: Kick-Ass0 Comments

Kick-Ass 2 will enter production this year for a May 2013 release, according to series artist John Romita Jr.

Speaking during a world record signing and sketching attempt over the weekend, the illustrator revealed that deals are in place for the follow-up and shooting is imminent.

Romita Jr, who worked on the Kick-Ass comic books with writer Mark Millar, did not divulge any details about the movie’s cast and crew, but did confirm that it could feature an animated sequence that he is hoping to develop.

Kick-Ass stars Aaron Johnson and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are expected to reprise their roles from the original, though reports suggest that Chloë Moretz, who portrayed Hit-Girl, could be caught up in a scheduling conflict.

Comic Book Movie understands that Moretz will be filming Carrie around that time frame, and has The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea lined up as her next venture.

Kick-Ass 2‘s cast and director is expected to be announced in the near future.

Feb 23 - Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall Shoots This Summer Says Mark Millar
Feb 23, 2012 • Category: Kick-Ass1 Comment

I hope Mark stays true to his word!

Although we haven’t heard anything official regarding the Kick-Ass sequel Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall in quite some time, comic book creator Mark Millar has revealed that the sequel will go into production this summer, along with American Jesus.

“We shoot Kick-Ass 2 and American Jesus this summer. Then Matthew (Vaughn) and I have Secret Service, which is a neddy James Bond.”

It doesn’t seem that Matthew Vaughn will return to direct Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall, although it is believed he will remain on board as a producer. We reported last month that Matthew Vaughn will direct the X-Men: First Class Sequel, although no production start date was released. We also have no official word regarding actors such as Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, or Christopher Mintz-Plasse returning for Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall.

Apr 13 - Kick-Ass Screenwriter Says Sequel May Not Happen
Apr 13, 2011 • Category: Kick-Ass0 Comments

More bad news for fans of director Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass, the live-action adaptation of the comic book created by Mark Millar. Despite Millar’s assertion back in September that Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall would go into production “in nine months”—which would put the start date in June of this year, after Vaughn’s work on X-Men: First Class is completed—title star Aaron Johnson said only a few weeks later that he had heard that “they’re not going to make one any time soon.” Then, both Chloe Moretz and Lyndsy Fonseca publicly expressed their doubts about Millar’s timeline.

It seemed like Millar might turn out to be right after all when it was reported in January that Kick-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman was “working on the script” for the sequel, but Goldman quickly shot down the rumor, calling it “erroneous.” Now, Goldman has revealed to Absolute Radio (via DigitalSpy) that the sequel may not happen at all.

I don’t think it’s going to happen. At the moment, it’s not in the works. We’re all doing different things at the moment. We would love to do it again, but we’ve all been pulled in different directions.

I really hope this doesn’t turn into a Sin City 2 fiasco where it’ll take them years just to start up on a sequel…

Jan 24 - Kick-Ass 2 Still Not Being Written
Jan 24, 2011 • Category: Kick-Ass0 Comments

When Kick-Ass landed in theaters last year it was in no way the hit that anybody had expected. Making only $19 million in its opening weekend and precipitously falling in the weeks following, fans might want to see a sequel, but it doesn’t seem likely. Last we heard, star Aaron Johnson, who played the titular hero, said that the idea for the sequel was entirely in the hands of director Matthew Vaughn. Then, just a few days later, Chloe Moretz chimed in to say that everything we’ve heard about a Kick-Ass 2 has been all rumor. Today’s news doesn’t make the situation any brighter.

Jane Goldman, who has written the scripts for Vaughn’s Stardust, Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, recently took to Twitter to clear up some rumors that she has been hearing about the sequel. First, she cleared up that she is not currently writing another Kick-Ass film. Instead, she is working on two other projects at the moment and then will be moving on to Vaughn’s next film – which also won’t be Kick-Ass 2 – after he finishes post-production on X-Men.
