Aaron Johnson on Kick-Ass
Feb 23, 2011 • Category: Interviews, Kick-Ass0 Comments

Sky Movies Magazine speaks exclusively to Aaron Johnson about his role as self-styled superhero Kick-Ass…Sky Movies Magazine: Tell us about your so-geeky-he’s-cool character Dave Lizewski aka Kick-Ass…
Aaron Johnson: He’s got nothing going for him, but behind the mask he feels like he can do anything… It’s all about imagination and escaping and trying to find an outlet. That’s what Kick-Ass is.

SMM: The whole movie looks awesome but which scenes were the most fun to film?
AJ: I enjoyed all the fighting scenes and all the scenes with Chloe [Moretz] and Chris [Mintz-Plasse] were fantastic. Chris and I play these really crappy superheroes who just sit around while he smokes dope – we had such a laugh and he’s so funny.

SMM: How did you find working with director Matthew Vaughn?
AJ: I got on with Matthew instantly. That’s what it’s all about. If you’ve got a good strong director who can demand who they want… Usually you’re kind of overrun by producers saying they need a name, but he could afford to use an unknown [laughs] because he didn’t have a studio telling him what he had to do.

SMM: It must have been a lot of fun on set…
AJ: It became a family quite quickly… Nic Cage was easy. He was really kind of quirky. He’d come out with all sorts of jokes on set – you wouldn’t know whether to laugh but then he’d start giggling himself… Me and Chloe had more of a relationship. Chris would make me laugh a lot. But for me, it was kind of learning and watching. I do this thing where I sit back and analyse and observe what’s going on. But I enjoyed every moment of it and I miss it.
